Seed Potatoes - Vegetables
Plant from March to May, earth up against frost. Early potatoes need light soil and a warm position, clay soils are better suited to maincrop. Harvest about 4 months after planting, water well in dry weather.
Potatoes are grown from what are known as "seed potatoes" those saved from the previous years crop and not really seeds. This is a vegetative means of propagation so the resulting potato plants are genetically identical to the parent so giving a true variety. Many of the seed potatoes sold in the UK (and many other countries too) are grown in Scotland in areas that have a much lower risk of disease.
